About STEM in Action Community Impact
The Compact presents STEM in Action Community Impact, in partnership with Austin Community College. This premiere model, funded by The Office of the Governor through a Wagner-Peyser grant, incorporates civic engagement and Service-Learning initatives into STEM curricula at the high school, community college and university levels.
student lyceum
The Compact's Student Lyceum is an institution for popular education. The lyceum is a forum for the dissemination of knowledge and information in the areas of civic engagement and community involvement. Through discussions, lectures and panelled seminars, the lyceum offers students an opportunity to gain practical experience and insight from experts and leaders in their fields.
engaging conversations
The Compact is committed to "Closing the Gaps," a comprehensive and ambitious higher education initiative to enroll 630,000 more students into Texas colleges and universities by 2015. Engaging Conversations presents a series of six, one-day panel discussions with educators from around Texas centered around college access, civic engagement and the role of higher education.
According to the National Survey of Student Engagement, students who come to college with lower ACT scores . . . and participate in "educationally purposeful activities" see a greater increase in their grade point averages.
