Dr. Karen Meaney Ed.D.
Dr. Meaney recently joined the faculty in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Texas State Univerity. Texas State’s strong support of service-learning will enable her to continue service-learning efforts focused on combating childhood obesity. Dr. Meaney developed and received federal funding to implement the FUN & FIT service-learning program. FUN & FIT provides economically and culturally relevant nutrition education and physical activity to overweight children from low income African – American and Hispanic – American families. Previously Dr. Meaney served as a faculty member at Texas Tech University and Associate Director of the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center where she directed the university’s service-learning programs.
