Cynthia Medina, M.S.W.

Cynthia Medina, Assistant Professor in Our Lady of the Lake University's Worden School of Social Service has directed the Center for Service-Learning & Volunteerism since 2003. Each semester Cynthia also teaches a service-learning Social Work course exploring diversity and cultural competency. Cynthia earned her MSW and fulfulled her doctoral coursework at the University of Hawai'i. Her experience reflects her commitment to dismanting oppression related to the intersectionalities of gender, social class, sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture, and nationality. She has extensive experience working with individuals and families coping with homelessness, escaping violence, and living with HIV/AIDS. Cynthia has a long history of service including work as a Peace Corps volunteer in Pohnpei, a remote island in the Pacific, and serving as a University Year for Action volunteer with the Minnesota Dept. of Corrections. She's well known for her love of Tabasco and her two dogs.
